WHAT IS SOS?

SOS is the largest after-school club at Wake Forest-Rolesville Middle School. We focus on teaching students citizenship and to be proud Americans. We work hard and we also play hard! This is our website.

SOS CLUB MISSION STATEMENT

The Mission of the SOS Club is to introduce youth to the needs of others in their community and the ethical management of business.

OBJECTIVES:

* Introduce youth to the management of an ethical, charity focused business including how to develop and manage

  - Business Plans

  - Budgets

  - Marketing/Advertising

  - Project Management

  - Event Execution

* Introduce and invigorate a passion for helping people less fortunate and to recognize how each of us can make a positive difference

* Create a sense of national and local pride that will help our youth recognize their value in society and recognize how their skills can be used to become better citizens

* Work Hard and Play Hard!

WHAT DO WE BELIEVE?

* The Power of the Individual

By giving students opportunities to do something positive, we teach that EVERYDAY PEOPLE CAN DO GREAT THINGS! We are not a good ole boy network and we have no political power.

We are about teaching our youth that It is all about the power of the individual! In this case, it is all about middle school youth, who society does not expect much from in terms of giving back.

People are impressed when they find our club’s events have raised $75,000 PROFIT in 5 years for Duke and NC Children's Hospitals.

* The Opportunity to Succeed or to Fail

SOS believes there is no better way to teach responsibility than to give responsibility, with the possibility of success and the possibility of disappointment. We recognize that many of our nation’s greatest success stories did not experience their success right away or without severe disappointment.

* Fiscal Responsibility - Don’t Spend What You Don’t Have

We use NO public funds! SOS emphasizes the importance of fiscal responsibility to make an honest profit while providing a quality product to our school and our customers!

* Leaders are Assertive and Remain Steadfast in the Face of Adversity Because You Believe in What You Are Doing.

Above all, SOS wants students to become responsible, independent, and caring citizens, who will neither be passive nor aggressive when facing adversity, but will be assertive when standing up for what is just and for what is right.

WHAT DO WE DO?

  1. *DANCE MARATHON

Dance Marathon is the biggest endeavor SOS undertakes each year. Besides organizing this large charity event at the school, members learn how to run the project much like a small business using free enterprise and teamwork to accomplish our goals.

Who do I contact?
